Halloween Gift Baskets - A Trend on the Rise

Halloween has become a major gifting occasion over the past few years and the trend is growing. You may wonder who sends Halloween gift baskets when kids just go door-to-door and get candy for free. The statistics might actually surprise you. Everyone from parents, to aunts and uncles, to grandparents, and even corporate businesses are sending Halloween gifts these days. The reasons for sending Halloween gifts vary as well. While it is traditional to send gift baskets at Christmas, Mother's Day and other major holidays or events, sending a Halloween gift can be considered a more 'strategic' pursuit. The end result achieved is the same as the other holidays, but it is done without the gift recipient even realizing it's original intent. Many people expect a gift at Christmas but they don't expect a Halloween gift to arrive by courier! Important reasons for sending Halloween baskets are listed below. First come the Practical. The recipients may live in a neighborhood that either doesn't participate in the shelling out ritual or is deemed unsafe for children to be wandering the streets at night in. The recipient may be ill or injured (picture a poor kid trying to trick-or-treat while using crutches) and therefore unable to hit the streets in search of the sweet stuff.

Then come the Sentimental. The recipient may be too old to go tricking-or-treating but the family does not want them to feel left out or ripped off so they send some treats that can be enjoyed without having to endure the social stigma placed upon teens who go door-to door in search of a sugar fix. One of our largest segments of Halloween basket recipients is the college student. Parents and relatives are often missing those students a great deal by the time that the end of October rolls around so they like to send a little something to let the student know that they are thinking about them and it's a wonderful pick-me-up for the students who are often facing mid-term exams and home sickness around the same time. Other recipients/senders who fall into the sentimental category are adults themselves. Let's face it, not all of us outgrow our sweet tooth! We may not want to go all out by dressing up and hosting or attending an elaborate costume party, but even grown-ups enjoy a treat now and then. Husbands and wives will often send small gifts to each other at their place of work, while older parents may send more substantial baskets to their grown children and their families because they miss them and want to take part in the festivities of the season. Boyfriends and girlfriends also like to send their significant others token gifts that are often reminders of inside jokes between the couple, or just as a sweet gesture of affection. Another important trend is Halloween corporate gifting. While most businesses choose to send Christmas gifts, some businesses can step out in front of the crowd and send a small reminder of the important relationship they have with suppliers, customers or employees at a time when the recipient will least expect it, but definitely remember it.
